The Governors of the South-South Region met in Asaba on Thursday 5th of March, 2020 to discuss important issues on the development of the region. One of its resolutions was to launch a regional security outfit to combat major crimes bedeviling the region such as kidnapping, cultism and armed robbery.
Governor Okowa of Delta State, who was flanked on the right by Governor Obaseki of Edo State and Governor Wike of Rivers State and on the left by Governors Udom Emmanuel and Diri of Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states respectively while speaking to the press stated that apart from a regional security outfit, the region also wants to revive its economy.
