Shell has declared force majeure on exports of Nigerian Forcados crude oil after a shutdown by the pipeline’s operator, a spokeswoman for the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria said on Thursday.
Reuters Africa reported that the action came into effect on Monday afternoon after Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited shut down the Trans Forcados pipeline which it operates on April 4, the spokeswoman added, without providing further details.
This is coming on the heels of several predictions by lawyers that there may be an avalanche of commercial disputes bordering on force majeure after the covid-19 pandemic is spent.
The aftermath of the covid-19 is already rearing its head and a lot of commercial disputes may still head the way of force majeure eventually.
