Dear Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN,
I want to go on record as formally endorsing your candidacy for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Over these past months, the legal community and I have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the perspectives and agendas of the various candidates in the upcoming elections.
Your honest, pragmatic, and hopeful insight into our profession’s problems and needs, and your willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to lawyers’ questions and concerns, sets you far apart from the other candidates’ expected techniques and routine talks.
I had a little history with you, Dr. Ajibade. I remember that as a young lawyer many years ago, I squared up against you in a commercial litigation in a Lagos High Court. It was an intense and passionate engagement, but you treated me with nothing but respect and dignity without any form of condescension or regard to my greenhorn status. You exemplified honesty, fairness, and thoughtfulness. You did not do this to only me, but you did it and still do it to every individual who experiences the good fortune of meeting your professional acquaintance.
I have admired you ever since and I have no doubt that you will advance these sterling qualities even more tellingly in your role as President of the NBA.
And so, I am writing today to express my support for your campaign and my intention both to vote for you in the upcoming elections and to spread word to others of the value of your policies and abilities.
I am praying and hoping for your success.
Seun Lawal.
