WE CALL FOR BRANCH MEETING IN MAY AS NBA NEC SETS UP CARETAKER COMMITTEE FOR NBA ETI-OSA BRANCH
We of the Eti-Osa Bar Forum, a forum of progressive lawyers in the Nigerian Bar Association, Eti-Osa Branch wholeheartedly welcome the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee for the Nigerian Bar Association, Eti-Osa Branch with the mandate to to Conduct Elections Within 3 Months.
We are aware that
the Caretaker Committee so inaugurated is for the newly created Eti-Osa Branch, following the approval of the branch’s establishment by the National Executive Council (NEC) on February 29, 2024.
The committee, appointed by the National Executive Committee (NEC), is tasked with administering the affairs of the branch for a period of three months and conducting elections for the branch’s executive committee.
The Caretaker Committee is chaired by Olawale Ajia, with Chinyere Akuwueze Nwaogu serving as the Secretary. Other members of the committee include Clifford Orighomisan Atakere, Hauwa Halidu, and Ganiyu Adebowale Johnson.
In a notice issued by the NBA President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, the committee is mandated to plan and hold the Annual General Meeting of the branch within the stipulated three-month period, during which the election of the executive committee will be conducted.
The committee is expected to complete the election process and hand over to the elected Branch Executive Committee on or before August 7, 2024.
We call on the CARETAKER COMMITTEE to initiate a MONTHLY MEETING of the Branch starting from the current month of MAY , specifically the LAST THURSDAY of the Month tentatively within the Eti-Osa Magistrate/High Court, Addo Road, Ajah, Lagos by 3pm, so as to bring MEMBERS together to discuss the WAY FORWARD in respect of the MANDATE of the Caretaker Committee.
