Police Arrest 5 for Killing Man

The Police have arrested five men: Toheeb Popoola, Ibrahim Ridwan, Mutiu Tijani, Akeem Ishola and Lawal Afeez, for beating a 25 – year – old Monsur Kareem to death in Ogun State.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday following a report by the deceased father, Najeem Kareem, who complained at Sango Police station that his son was beaten to coma by the suspects following a misunderstanding with Toheeb popoola.

The man said further that his son was rushed to a hospital after the beating but doctors confirmed him dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this in a release on Sunday evening said that on the basis of the report, the Divisional Police Officer for Sango Police Division, Godwin Idehai, a Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP), led detectives to the scene at Ijoko area of the state and arrested the five suspects.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said investigation conducted by the detectives  revealed that as a landlord in the area was coming in his tricycle loaded with kegs of water, he fell to the ground with the kegs of water and while picking them, Toheeb popoola whose house was situated in the place came forward to challenge him for being at the location at the time.

In the ensuing argument between the two, the deceased tried to intervene but Toheeb took offence at his intervention and invited the other four suspects to the scene and ordered them to beat both the deceased and the tricycle man up.

In the process, the deceased was beaten to coma and rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The Nation reported that according to the Police image maker in the state, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the  Ifo general hospital mortuary for autopsy while the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson,  has  given directive for the transfer of the suspects to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SIID) for investigation and prosecution.
