The Chairman of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, has dismissed the petition of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) against the nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima as lacking merit.

Justice Tsammani dismissed APM’s petition accusing Kashim Shettima of double nomination in the 2023 general elections, citing provisions in sections 131 and 137 of the constitution, which does not provide for an invalid nomination or double nomination to be a ground for the disqualification of a vice presidential candidate.

He also held that Mr Ibrahim Masari, who was nominated as a placeholder by the APC (for the position of the Vice President), was not a necessary party to the petition because he was neither a candidate nor did he win the election.
