Chinyere Obasi deeply saddened by the cold blooded murder of Catholic faithfuls at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, yesterday, 5th June, 2022 has reminded government of its primary role of protection of lives and property of its citizens.
She commiserated with the victims’ families while condemning the inhumane act.
“There is practically no safe place in Nigeria anymore. The country is fast degenerating into a failed state where brutality and lawlessness are a norm, yet the people elected to positions of power have more or less abandoned their duties and are concentrating on selfish politicking.
It is mind boggling that peaceful worshippers of their God would be hacked to death in cold blood in broad daylight. How did we get here? What is the value of a Nigerian life?
Government officials are heavily guarded by security personnel, but willfully forget that their citizens who elected them into office are dying in their numbers on a daily basis. May I remind them that their primary duty is to safeguard the lives and properties of their citizens and in this regard, they have failed beyond description. They should bury their heads in shame.
My condolences go to the victims’ families. They do not deserve such a harrowing experience. May God comfort them and may the souls of the departed rest in peace. Amen.”
