The news of the release of my learned friends of the Warri Branch of the NBA from the den of kidnappers came to me as a relieve.
This incessant kidnapping which has somewhat become customary in our country over the years is overly disturbing. And to think that lawyers are also caught up in the web of victims of this abusive trend is even more disturbing.
This menace is not territorially bound, it spans across the entire geopolitical zones, and as such, all hands must be on deck to fight it to a halt. And to do this, security, necessarily, has to be given its deserved flavour; security must be handled discretely and issues connected thereto must be treated dispassionately, not lending ears to whose ox is gored.
It is apparent, from this incident and many others before, that nobody is safe in this country, as we are all susceptible to this societal malady that has become part of us . We must therefore be vigilant as we go about our businesses as lawyers.
I congratulate my dear friends and colleagues for finally regaining their freedom. I also congratulate the NBA for the effort in seeing that our colleagues returned to us safe.
