The welfare of members of the NBA should be uppermost to all lawyers in Nigeria. We must not negotiate the welfare of lawyers for anything less.
It is on this premise that I congratulate the members of the NBA Markudi Branch for rising up to the occasion and defending the integrity of the legal profession by ensuring that the impostor, Terkembi Abraham, who deliberately impersonated the respected learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief J. S. Okutepa by forging his letterhead paper to deceive innocent members of the public.
It is worrisome that poachers are encroaching into our legal space and causing lawyers fortunes. This trend has continued unabatedly, but the Markudi Branch of the NBA has put a stop to it. I am not surprised at the enviable strides so far achieved by the indefatigable Chairperson and members of the Executive Committee of the Makurdi Branch. I was in Makurdi when the election ushering the recent Excos took place and I can attest to the overwhelming support of members of the Branch for them.
The enviable feat being witnessed by members of the Markudi Branch led my the first female Chairperson, Mrs M. M. Ikwulono, is same as we are witnessing in the NBA Idemili Branch led by the mercurial, Dame Nkolika Ashara. Dame Nkolika Ashara Esq., Is the first female leader of my Branch.
Women, given the opportunity, will do wonders. I advocate we allow for a Gentleman in Skirt to lead the Bar at the National level in the near future.
Congratulations to my brethren in the Benue Valley for redeeming the image of the Bar. History will always be fair to you for this onerous and laudable feat.
