The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the NBA Auditorium, NBA House, Abuja on Thursday, the 12th day of March 2020, resolved to reject the Body of Benchers’ demand of 10% of the Bar Practicing Fees as NBA’s annual contribution to the “Body”.

The resolution is contained in the communique released on 30/04/2020 by the NBA dated 12th day of March 2020.

NEC noted the report from the President in regard to the demand from the Body of Benchers (“Body”) for payment to the Body by the NBA of 10% of the Bar Practice Fees as the NBA’s annual contribution to the Body.

NEC Observed that this issue had been tabled previously at the NEC meeting of previous administrations and was rejected by NEC, inter alia, on ground that the financial burden the NBA carries on behalf of the Body in regard to the activities of the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee is heavy.

NEC mandated the NBA President to consult with members of the Association who are also Benchers, notably past Presidents and Trustees, and agree on a reasonable fixed amount that the NBA will be paying as the Association’s annual contribution to the Body.
