The office of the Publicity Secretary is pivotal in the ongoing evangelism to reposition the bar.
It is not an office to learn but to discharge your prowess as the image maker of the Association.
You must have good antecedent in human right crusade and art of public speaking to effectively discharge your duties as the Publicity Secretary of NBA.
Olayinka Sokoya has been speaking against the ills in the society right from his University days.
His antecedent can be verified at the then University of Ado Ekitk, now Ekiti State University.
He has the passion to redefine the image of the NBA and possibly improve on the awesome works of the current administration.
As Secretary of Ilesa bar, he resisted the effort of the Government of Osun State to increase the filing fee and take away access to justice from the masses. It was an attempt to commercialise justice in the State. He did not only file a suit to challenge the ludicrous policy but led the team of lawyers to ensure that the policy did not see the light of the day. (Suit No. FHC/CS/6/2017, E. O Ogunfunminiyi &1Or v. Attorney General of the Federation & Ors.)
When he was assaulted by the Police while performing his lawful duty to his client, he promptly instituted an action against the erring police officers and the Nigeria Police force for the violent violation of his fundamental rights in Suit No: FHC/OS/CS/65/2015 OLAYINKA SOKOYA V. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE & ORS and judgment was delivered in his favour whereby the court awarded the sum of Ten Million, Three hundred and fifty thousand Naira Only (N10, 350, 000. 00k) as general and special damages for the breach of his Rights.
Recently when Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company IBEDC disconnected Electricity supply to about six Local Government areas in Osun State, he did not only condemn the action on the pages of Newspapers but filed an action in court against IBEDC and he got judgment in the suit. #500,000.00k was awarded against IBEDC for illegally disconnecting electricity supply to the affected local government areas without notice in writing.
Permit me to say that He has been the voice of the voiceless and the oppressed in the society.
