Former chairman of the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association and current chairman of the Association’s Security Agencies Relations Committee, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, in a remark on the theme of the Garki Branch Law Week, highlights the relevance of staying current in the evolving legal landscape.
Mr. Ikwuazom’s full remarks are as follows:
“Keeping the pace is undeniably relevant to the Nigerian legal society in today’s rapidly evolving world. In an era characterized by rapid change, technological advancements and global connectivity, the legal landscape is not immune to the winds of change. Legal professionals must keep pace with these changes to ensure that they remain effective and relevant in their roles. This includes staying updated on emerging laws and regulations, such as those related to data privacy and cybersecurity, which have become critical in an increasingly digital society. Failure to do so could result in legal practitioners falling behind, rendering their advice and services obsolete in a world.
Furthermore, as businesses become more global and complex, clients expect legal counsel to provide not only legal expertise but also strategic guidance that aligns with their overarching objectives. Staying current with legal trends, international best practices, and industry-specific knowledge positions Nigerian lawyers to offer comprehensive solutions to their clients.
On this basis, I find the topic of the NBA Garki Branch Law Week to be quite apt. I extend warm greetings and regards to the leadership and members of the Branch, as well as other attendees.
Chukwuka Ikwuazom
Former NBA Lagos Chairman & Chairman, NBA Security Agencies Relations Committee.”
