On Friday, 16 February 2024, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee (NBA-SARC) graced the NBA Garki Branch meeting with his presence. In his address to the Branch members, the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria conveyed warm felicitations to the Branch and its leadership and praised the Branch on the remarkable progress it has achieved since its inception about two years ago.
Emphasizing his unwavering dedication as Chairman of the NBA-SARC, the Learned Silk reiterated his commitment to ensuring that lawyers are safe from all forms of assault, intimidation, or threat in the course of rendering their professional services to their clients.
Commenting on the alarming trend of kidnaps targeting legal practitioners, Mr. Ikwuazom shared his concerns on the state of the Nation, and highlighted the NBA-SARC’s relentless hard work to ameliorate these issues. He noted that the NBA-SARC is taking proactive steps in the discharge of its terms of reference.
To this end, the Learned Silk announced that next month, the NBA-SARC would be hosting a security workshop/conference that would bring together lawyers and heads of the Security Agencies in Nigeria to discuss matters relating to relations between lawyers and security agents as well as the prevailing insecurity in the country. It is not news that recently, there has been an upsurge on incidences of kidnappings, extreme violence, and “one chance” gripping in Abuja and other States in Nigeria.
The Learned Silk assured members that more preventive measures will be provided by the NBA-SARC to effectively address insecurity and ensure that the safety and security of all citizens, starting with legal practitioners are guaranteed and protected.
Mr. Ikwuazom’s tireless commitment in achieving the mandate of the NBA-SARC underscores his astute leadership and resourcefulness in ensuring that both lawyers and non-lawyers enjoy safety without falling victim of kidnappings and any other form of insurgencies.
