The Nigerian Bar Association, Asaba Branch led by its Chairman, Mr. Precious Nwadimuya, in collaboration with the Nigerian Psychological Association, Delta State Chapter led by Dr. Irene Adogwe, today, the 21st of November, 2022 visited Oko-Amakom, one of the communities in Oshimili South Local Government Area ravaged by the recent flooding.

The purpose of the visit was to carry out on the spot assessment of the effect of the flooding in the area and to provide psychosocial and material support to members of the community who are now IDPs in their own land.

During the visit, it was observed that the only access road to the community was severely damaged by the flood which left deep gullies on different portions of the road and in front of some residential houses making it difficult to access the community and the houses.

The Chairman of the NBA in his remarks after the assessment called on the government at all levels to come to the aid of all the Oko communities to restore their access road, fumigate the entire community to save the people from dangerous reptiles that took refuge in some of the houses as a result of the disruption of the ecosystem. He also noted that since the flood destroyed the farms of the people who are largely agrarian, there was need for government to provide the people with farm inputs to enable them go back to their farms again to fend for themselves and their children. The Chairman also calls on well meaning Nigerians to reach out to the people with whatever form of support they can afford to enable the people resettle in their community again.

The Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Mrs. Ify Ogbogu accompanied the two associations on the visit.
