Yesterday, the 20th day of October 2020 is a date that would forever rest in infamy, a date where we witnessed an attack perpetrated against unarmed Nigerian citizens protesting police brutality at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos State.
As we await confirmation of fatalities and casualty numbers, the members of the executive committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Asaba Branch, at this time, lends its voice to that of the leadership of the legal community to totally condemn ‘’ the acts of recklessness and lawlessness’ ’ perpetrated ‘’ by officers of the security apparatus of the Government ”.
We recognize that the majority of the country is in pain and are mourning the deaths of its citizens who may have lost their lives during the Lekki toll plaza debacle, however, we call upon all well-meaning Nigerians to eschew the violent conduct that we are witnessing engulfing some major city centers in the country. We are also calling on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to rise to the occasion, and provide purposeful leadership clothed with a human face in these dark and trying times.
We also want to use this opportunity to remind the deserving members of the public in Asaba and its environs to continue to avail themselves of the NBA Asaba Branch #ENDSARS Protests Pro Bono Legal Team, and to also escalate all incidents and cases of police brutality via email to nba.asababranch@gmail.com
Continue to keep safe.
