Lagos NBA Branches held the Year 2024 1st Quarter Meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State

The Year 2024 1st Quarter Meeting of NBA Branches in Lagos State with the Commissioner of Police Lagos State was held on 14 March, 2024.

In a statement made available to lawyerwaka.com, it was stated as follows –

In attendance: Chairmen of Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Ikorodu along with representatives of Epe Branch.

Highlights

  1. The investigation of the assault of Olumide Sonupe has been taken over by the new DCP State CID Panti, DCP Ahmed Lateef, Ph.D, PSC who has fixed Wednesday, 20 March, 2024 for a meeting with two NBA representatives and the victim.
  2. The Chairmen of NBA Branches in Lagos State nominated the NBA Ikorodu and Ikeja Branch Chairmen to attend the meeting with the DCP State CID Panti.
  3. Police investigation led by the Commissioner of Police is ongoing to unravel the unknown policeman involved in the assault case against our Colleague in the premises of the Lagos State Police Command last week.
  4. The Lagos State Police‐Lawyers Relations Committee was inaugurated with each Branch of the NBA in Lagos State having two representatives on the Committee headed by the Commissioner of Police with the DC Admin, DC Ops and DC State CID Panti, PPRO and O/C Legal Panti and Five Area Commanders on the Committee including Area Commanders Area N and F. NBA Lagos Branch is to be represented by the Chairman Olabisi Makanjuola and Vice Chairman, Esther Jimoh.
  5. The Committee will meet on a monthly basis, and quarterly too, to review situations and take decisions affecting the terms of reference of the Committee. The Committee will maintain a whatsapp group for treating cases on real time basis on a day to day basis.
  6. There would be a Quarterly Town Hall meeting between the Police High Command in Lagos State facilitated by the NBA Branch hosting the meeting. The Town Hall meeting will be facilitated by the Lagos, Ikorodu, Ikeja Badagry and Epe Branches with each Branch hosting one of the Quarterly meetings.
  7. The Legal Section of the State CID will now receive court processes from Counsel/Sheriffs of Court at least 3 days before the hearing dates of matters as opposed to the practice of requiring two weeks notice prior to the date of hearing of a matter.
  8. Members of any Branch having issues at any Police formation in Lagos State are enjoined to immediately contact their Branch representatives on the Police-Lawyers Relations Committee for quick resolution of their issues.
  9. Lawyers who visit police formations are enjoined to be courteous in their interactions with police officers.
