Gentlemen, the Executive Committee and members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Asaba Branch today received with great shock and dismay, the news of the gruesome murder of one of its members, C. O. Kpatuma Esq. at his hometown in Imo State on Tuesday, 1st February 2022.

C. O. Kpatuma Esq. was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010 and was the erstwhile O/C Legal at the State Criminal Investigation Department, the Nigerian Police, State Headquarters, Asaba, before his retirement.

It is our understanding that investigation is ongoing, and we urge His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Nigerian Police and all the security agencies in Imo state to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the culprits are speedily brought to book.

This again brings to the fore, the grave issues of insecurity plaguing this country and it’s populace. The Government of the day has persistently failed to secure the lives of its citizens and has condemned them to a life of fear where no one is sure about the next day or what it brings.

It may seem that our security agencies are overwhelmed by the enormity and frequency of criminal activity and have thus left our fates in our hands. We urge our members to be always vigilant and avoid any activity or situation that would mark them as easy prey for these increasingly violent and nefarious individuals. It is also important that we always act within the principles of the law, observe utmost discretion, and take reasonable steps to protect our lives, families, and properties.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the immediate family of late C. O. Kpatuma, Esq, the good people of Agwa Clan of Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, and the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force and pray that they have the fortitude to bear this unfortunate loss.

May the soul of C. O. Kpatuma, Esq rest in peace.

Augustine N. Eseagwu, Esq. ACIArb (UK)
Chairman, NBA Asaba Branch
