Over the course of three (3) decades of law practice, I have observed many legal professionals. Few match Chukwuka Ikwuazom’s commitment to holistic improvement of our profession. His initiatives as NBA Lagos Branch Chairman, particularly institutionalising the Knowledge Sharing Sessions and mentorship programs, have significantly enhanced the practical skills of both young and experienced lawyers.
However, Chukwuka’s work extends beyond legal education. In his current role as Chairman of the NBA Security Agencies Relations Committee, he is assiduously tackling the crucial task of balancing security concerns with the rule of law. This, combined with his collaborative efforts at legal reform through the Administration of Civil Justice Model Law, shows his comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing our legal system and the practice of law.
As a former Secretary and Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, and an active NBA-NEC member from 2011 – 2022, I well understand the importance of entrusting bar leadership into the hands of a capable and tested colleague of high integrity, intellect, vision, and drive. In addition to these core attributes, Chukwuka possesses the capacity, charisma, collaborative spirit, attention to detail, elocution, above average interpersonal skills, maturity, and tolerance which signpost a servant leader. It was these considerations that propelled me to second his nomination as a candidate for the office of President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
I call on all members of the legal profession – academics, advocates, in-house counsel, solicitors, and every qualified lawyer (whether in practice or not) who is affected or impacted by the NBA – to support and vote for Chukwuka Ikwuazom in his quest for the Presidency of the NBA. His leadership promises to bridge the gap between theory and practice, while addressing the most pressing issues of our legal landscape. Vote for a leader who values education, reform, and the delicate balance of justice and security.
