FIDA Lagos 2023: Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN Stresses the need for Proper Data Collection and Analysis

Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Security Agencies Relations Committee (NBA-SARC), was in attendance at the 2023 Law Week of the Lagos Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA). The event, themed “Gender-based Violence – Stemming the Tide,” took place on the 31st of October, 2023, at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island, Lagos.

During the opening ceremony, Mr. Ikwuazom, who chaired the event, took a moment to commend FIDA for its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of women and children. He stressed the importance of building a society free from gender-based violence, highlighting that victims of such violence are often unable to realize their full potential in society.

The erudite Senior Advocate shared his expectations for the Law Week, emphasizing the need to critically examine gender-based violence and, importantly, propose practical solutions and preventative measures. He underlined the significance of ongoing advocacy and public awareness, emphasizing that victims of gender-based violence must be safeguarded and provided with secure channels to report abuse. He also stressed the need for Proper documentation and analysis.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Ikwuazom expressed gratitude to the International Federation of Women Lawyers for their dedication to ending gender-based violence. He urged all attendees to remain steadfast in their efforts to combat this issue and wished them fruitful and productive discussions.
