Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, Jamiu Malomo, for allegedly killing a suspected sex worker, Azeezat Akande, 28.
The incident occurred at Ilupeju community, Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta, after the 18-year-old suspect had sex with the victim.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed these in a statement on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the Adatan police divisional headquarters by the Chairman, Ilupeju community, Adisa Lawal.
Lawal was said to have told the police that residents woke up on Sunday, July 18, 2021, only to discover the lifeless body of the lady, who was stabbed to death on a rock in the area; a bloodstained knife was placed beside her.
The police spokesman said, “Upon the report, the DPO Adatan division, SP Abiodun Salau, and his detectives moved to the scene from where the corpse was moved to the mortuary of the state hospital, Ijaye.
“The DPO and his crack detectives there and then embarked on intelligence and forensic investigations to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome murder of the deceased.
Their efforts paid off when they received information that the person who was seen last with the deceased was sighted around 11.45pm on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 380 Bar, in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, where he was trying to pick another runs girl. The detectives quickly moved in and got him arrested.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect, who was just released from prison custody last month, confessed to killing the deceased.
“According to him, he picked the deceased from Panseke and took her home for sexual pleasure.
“After having carnal knowledge of the victim, she demanded N10,000, which was their agreement, but he refused to give her the money because he had only N8,000 on him.
“This led to a hot argument between them; he then gave his phone to the deceased to hold and wait for him on the road, while he went to bring the money for her.
“While the deceased was waiting, the suspect came back with a knife, unknown to the victim; he stabbed her deeply in her neck, resulting in the instant death of the deceased.”
The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
