The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has described the current Corona virus outbreak as the biggest challenge for the world since World War II. He warns it could bring a recession “that probably has no parallel in the recent past.”
Mr. Guterres equally expressed fear on the impact of Covid 19 on Africa. He said he was particularly worried about how the pandemic would harm Africa.
The number of cases in the world is now getting close to 860,000 with more than 42000 deaths with some countries recording more deaths than China where it began late last year.
The Secretary General made the statement earlier today at the UN headquarters in New York at the launch of a report on the potential socioeconomic impact of the outbreak.
