The World Health Organization through its Director-General, Mr. Tedros Adhanom says that the total number of persons infected with the virus will only in a matter of days hit 1 million, with the current number of more than 950,000 and a death toll of 48,000.

The Director-General stated this in his opening remarks at the Mission briefing on COVID-19 – 2 April 2020 earlier today.

“In the next day or two, we will reach more than 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, and 50,000 deaths. This virus, which was unknown to us three months ago, has exposed the weaknesses and inequities in our health systems and societies, our lack of preparedness, and the gaps in our supply chains and other essential systems,” he stated.
