A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, has remanded a cleric, Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe, at the Nigeria Correctional Service in Warri for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl.

Orhonigbe is the Founder/General Overseer of Victory Revival Fasting and Ministry in Warri. The victim is said to be a daughter of one his church members. Magistrate Ejiro Diejomaoh ordered the remand of the accused pending legal counsel from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The magistrate held that in case there was no space at the custodial centre, the defendant should be remanded at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, also in Warri.  Diejomaoh adjourned the matter till July 24, 2020, for mention.

Police prosecutor, Vincent Orawemen, a Superintendent of Police (SP), had told the court that the defendant allegedly raped the girl on May 20, 2020, inside his church.
