The Central Harmonisation Committee of the Lawyers’ Fora in Eti-Osa celebrated the St. Valentine’s day in grand style by bringing the different Lawyers’ Fora and Groups within the Eti-Osa Jurisdiction together for a Law and Love BEACHLINE (LLB) Valentine Retreat. The Retreat, which was code-named, LLB Eti-Osa was held at the popular Attican Beach, Okun-Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government, Lagos State.
In his opening speech, Ayo Ademiluyi, the Secretary of the Central Harmonisation Committee of Lawyers’ Fora in Eti-Osa, who also moderated the programme, highlighted the fact that the major aim of the Valentine Retreat is to forge harmony among the disparate Lawyers’ Fora and Groups within Eti-Osa towards the successful emergence of the Nigerian Bar Association, Eti-Osa Branch.
In his opening speech, Mr. Ademola Abina, the Coordinator of the Central Harmonisation Committee of Lawyers’ Fora in Eti-Osa emphasized on synergy among the Lawyers’ Fora towards achieving the aim of the establishment of Eti-Osa Branch.
The Valentine Retreat opened with the Young Lawyers’ Skill-Set Academy, which was powered by the Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Eti-Osa Bar Forum, one of the Forum affiliated to the Central Committee of Lawyers’ Fora in Eti-Osa and the Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikorodu Branch.
The Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikorodu was well represented with an inspiring contingent at the Academy.
In her opening speech, the Chairperson of the Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Ikorodu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association , Olawumi Adeola , she emphasized the need for young lawyers to continuously hone their skills to be better lawyers.
Seasoned scholar and author of the reputable work,” Civil Procedure: Forms and Precedents” , Mr. Olufemi Adisa-Isikalu went on to facilitate an interactive session on ” Pleadings without Tears for Young Lawyers”.
In his submission, Mr. Olufemi Adisa-Isikalu emphasized the need for clarity of presentation of facts in pleadings.
The session was followed by chit-chat on the recent Supreme Court judgments on Imo and Bayelsa elections with the weight the Apex Court attached to the pleadings of counsel.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Oladotun Hassan , the Chairman of the Eti-Osa Bar Forum emphasized on continuous legal Education as the way to go in improving the skills of lawyers.
The Valentine Party started by 6pm after a BEACHLINE tour by the participants.
Mr. Adesina Ogunlana, immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch graced the Valentine Party and gave the Pep-Talk on “Lawyers as Endangered Species: Professional Safety and Future of Legal Profession”.
He emphasised the need for lawyers to play their role in national redemption.
