The BBC Hausa service has announced a closing date for its annual short story writing competition for the year 2021.
This was announced by the BBC Hausa Editor, Aliyu Tanko, who said that the short story writing competition will be closing on Sunday, August 22, 2021.The short story writing competition was introduced in 2016 by BBC Hausa as a way of encouraging women to participate and share their stories.
The contest welcomes works of fiction from women writing in Hausa language and entries should be between 1000-1500 words.
A winner will be selected by an independent panel of judges who will also select two runners up and other works worthy of commendation, the editor said.
The completion was won last year by Maryam Umar, a 20-year-old law student from Sokoto, with her story “Rai da Cuta” (Life & sickness).
The first edition of the Hikayata competition was won by Sansanin ’Yan Gudun Hijira, a story narrating the plight of the victims of the Boko Haram crisis.
