In the past few months, the Nigerian Bar Association has been making the rounds on social media. The primary reason for the upsurge in Bar related information on social media is the upcoming bar elections.
In the run up to this year’s election which is billed to come up on the 24th of July, 2020, a lot of people have created polls to test the popularity of candidates, particularly the presidential candidates.
The first recognised poll was that promoted by Steve Sun in early 2020. Steve Sun is a former branch chairman and administrator of a Facebook group called “Nigerian Bar Association Members”.
Since the first poll, there have been several polls. For instance the second poll was a poll over who is the most popular candidate and another over who has more social media presence. A recent poll was about who was the most physically attractive of all the presidential aspirants.
While in the first poll, Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, FCIArb sat in second place, the learned silk’s reputation and popularity has risen to the extent that he now tops on all polls.
In the last two polls, Dr. Ajibade polled 46.8% and 68% respectively of the votes cast. The most recent, of course, was a poll on the physical appeal of the contestants and the learned silk “killed it “
Thats not all. The candidacy of Dr Ajibade has created such a buzz that the hashtag “#WhyDrAjibade” has been trending on twitter and was, at some point, the number one trending hashtag for 24 hours.
Some may say this is a good Omen and perhaps these are all signals of where and what the outcome of the elections portends .Or maybe it’s too early to call . But for someone who joined the race very late, Dr. Ajibade’s trajectory seems to be soaring for the stars and victory .
