I want to heartily congratulate the NBA Nnewi Branch and her esteemed leadership on the occasion of their 2022 Law week.
The theme, ‘Role of the Judiciary in strengthening Democratic and Electoral principles in Nigeria’ is a call to action to each and every one of us in this period of our nation’s history.
The principal role of the Judiciary has always been to protect the rule of law and ensure supremacy of the law. The Judiciary safeguards rights of the individual, settles disputes in accordance with the law, and ensure that Democracy does not give way to individual or group dictatorship.
Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States of America, said ‘All the rights secured to the citizens under the Constitution are worth nothing, and a mere bubble, except guaranteed to them by an independent and virtuous Judiciary’. As Lawyers, we should be fair, virtuous and of good conscience in all we do.
I know a topic like this, which touches on the bane of our existence as a Democratic nation, and the sound minds that will be deliberating on it, will once again remind us of why we decided to join the Legal profession.
The NBA Nnewi Branch, like a star in the East, has been a beacon illuminating our paths and it is my sincere prayers that they continue to do so for a long time.
Once again, Congratulations.
Long live the NBA Nnewi Branch,
Long live the NBA National,
Long live Nigeria.
Member, NBA National Welfare Committee and NBA National Welfare Secretary Aspirant.
