Assault on Lawyers: NBA SARC Chairman, Chukwuka Ikwuazom Announces Town Hall Meetings With Law Enforcement, Says Enough is Enough

On Friday, 1st of March 2024, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee (NBA-SARC), graced the NBA Unity Bar Branch meeting. In his address to the Branch members, the Learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria conveyed warm felicitations to the Branch and commiserated with the Branch on the tragic death of one of its members, praying that the good Lord grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Emphasizing his unwavering dedication as Chairman of the NBA-SARC, the Learned Silk reiterated the commitment of the Securities and Agencies Committee (NBA-SARC) to ensuring that lawyers are safe from all forms of assault, intimidation, or threat in the course of discharging their professional duties to their clients.

Commenting on the alarming trend, he made a salient point that assaults on Lawyers are almost becoming an epidemic, and he believes that the profession needs to speak with a very strong voice that “Enough is Enough.”

To this end, the Learned Silk announced that the NBA-SARC is organizing a Town Hall meeting across the three zones of the NBA branches this month, March 2024. This Town Hall meeting, as announced by the Learned Silk, aims to nurture a healthy relationship between Lawyers and Security Agencies in Nigeria to discuss matters relating to the prevailing insecurity in the country.

The Learned Silk further reassured members that more preventive measures will be provided by the NBA-SARC to effectively address the issue of insecurity and assault on Lawyers.
