As 2026 begins, it is not merely the start of another year, it is a call to action. The future before us will be shaped by the choices we make and the courage with which we make them. History does not move by chance; it is directed by intent.
As lawyers, our responsibility goes far beyond the courtroom. We are custodians of justice and sentinels of democracy. As Christopher Sapara Williams reminded us, the legal practitioner lives for the direction of his people. That charge must guide us now more than ever. In a pre-election year, we must help define the national conversation, defend the rule of law, and actively steer our country towards equity, accountability, and the common good.
Yet, even as we ready ourselves for the work ahead, this moment invites reflection. Let us pause, take pride in the progress made, and renew our collective resolve. The year ahead will demand courage, and commitment, and the Bar must lead from the front.
