The late lawyer, a member of the Sagbama Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), was allegedly killed by his neighbors on September 14, 2024, under circumstances that remain unclear.

The lawyers have petitioned the NBA President, as well as other high-ranking officials including the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, urging them to take swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In their petition, they expressed deep concern over the growing number of attacks on legal professionals in Nigeria, warning that inaction could have serious consequences for the safety of lawyers nationwide.

The petition described Jeremiah Chukwu as a dedicated and talented lawyer who had made significant contributions to the legal profession. As Head of Chambers at Ace & Ark LLP and Welfare Secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum in his NBA branch, he was highly respected by his peers. His murder has sent shockwaves through the legal community, prompting calls for increased protection for lawyers.

The petitioners emphasized the need to deter future attacks on lawyers, arguing that they are becoming increasingly vulnerable to violence. They called on the NBA to establish a legal task force to monitor the investigation and prosecution of Jeremiah’s case, and urged law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations and provide regular updates to the public.

The legal community is now anxiously awaiting the outcome of the investigation, hoping that justice will be served not only for Jeremiah Chukwu but also to protect the integrity and safety of the legal profession in Nigeria.
